In 1995 I was a cosmopolitan American businessman living and working in Europe. That summer, however, I returned to California, whereupon I was soon sporting cowboy boots, Levis work shirts and a flat top haircut. I drive around in a 1966 Chevy El Camino, and listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd CDs at night. I drink a lot of beer, and subscribe to Hot Rod. I grew a beard. I got a tattoo. I procured a shitload of guns.
Inexplicably, I had transformed almost overnight into an Urban Redneck.
I am a California native who graduated from Dana Hills High School, in south Orange County, in 1980. I went to Cal State for a couple years, and also studied graphic arts and programming at night at local junior colleges. In the early stages of a career in pre-press production, I suddenly lateralled, in 1985, into data communications sales and marketing, where I remained until getting out of the game in 2000.
During the intervening period, I had the pleasure of working for and with some of the finest people in the industry in over thirty countries, finally wrapping up a five year stint with Cisco Systems by going to work for a dotcom startup in Brussels called Reef. That lasted a year, and since returning (again!) to California I have been running a small manufacturer of accessories for tactical shotguns.
I love animals; am a voracious (but slow) reader; harbor unlikely leftist views on many subjects; embrace free markets; am a shameless booster for my hometown of Costa Mesa; remain strangely fascinated by history, automobile engines and firearms; and walk to work whenever I can.
This site is based on the Textpattern open source content management system. I designed the site myself. I know it doesn’t look like much, but I prefer to keep things simple, especially when dealing with CSS. At least it’s a variable width design that actually works. If you are interested in that sort of thing you can check out the CSS.
